Find Out About This Popular PS3 Launch Game
PS3 game review for Resistance: Fall of Man. This PS3 game review discusses the PS3 launch game: Resistance: Fall of Man. The idea of this game is nothing new; it is a PS3 first person shooter. However this is very high quality first person shooter with some unique and interesting characteristics. Resistance: Fall of Man is definitely one of the best and most popular PS3 launch titles. You will discover some of the reasons why in this PS3 game review.
Resistance: Fall of Man is a well-presented and well-designed PS3 game. The in game environments are impressive and realistic. It doesn't have a huge learning curve and you should have a good grasp of the game in about one hour. Two of the best features about this PS3 game are the challenging and clever enemies and excellent multiplayer game play.
The overall game design does not really add something new or innovative to the many first person shooter titles on the market. It however comes in at one of the best first person shooter games available and a lot of effort has been made to take the best qualities of other top first person games and incorporate them in this PS3 launch title. The main storyline does not have a lot of depth, but it does have plenty of intense action that would not give you time to think about complex story themes. There is a good choice of unique weapons and plenty of chances to use them. There is some attempt to make use of PS3 capabilities.
The main storey line of Resistance: Fall of Man takes place in an alternate reality where WWII did not take place. It is never made clear but it is implied that something far worse took place this atmosphere is. created by the grim and dark setting. The game takes place in the 1950's and there are some great mood setting features to represent this time period. For example black and white images are used. In this alternate reality a strange and vicious race of creatures called the Chimera have appeared and are slaughtering the world's human inhabitants. They have taken over Asia and most of Europe and are now moving across the United Kingdom.
This is where you step into the game. Your Resistance: Fall of Man PS3 game character is a tough American solider called Nathan Hale. He has been sent to help the British forces. As Nathan you will fight your way through the UK and try to survive while deep in enemy territory. Throughout the game there are a few very nice, but brief cinematic cut scenes. Nathan Hale's character is pretty shallow and not well developed but that doesn't really matter with this game. The game is full of fun, lots of action, and excellent environments.
The game controls for this PS3 game don't differ much from any other first person shooter. You will not have to pick up health packs or reach a checkpoint to recharge your health. It will recharge automatically if you can manage a brief break from the fighting. As you move through this top PS3 game you will have the chance to collect different weapons. This will make you more powerful, a necessity as the game becomes more difficult as you progress. One of the difficult challenges of the game is the distance between save points. These are fairly far apart making it harder and more intense to complete each level. The end of this PS3 game is very hard to get through no doubt it will give you a feeling of accomplishment when you manage to complete it.
Resistance: Fall of Man does make use of the PS3's sixaxis controller in a couple of fun ways. For example when you encounter a particular Chimera character that tries to attack by getting close to you and grabbing your throat you can shake your controller to force the Chimera to let go and allowing you to escape. The game also makes use of the PS3 sixaxis controller in the multi-player environment. In this environment you can be set on fire, if this happens you can drop to the ground and roll around by shaking the controller.
So even though Resistance: Fall of Man for the PS3 does not break any new ground in the first person shooter genre it does have a couple of qualities that make it stand out from the rest. The first is the enemy AI. Your enemies are very clever and different, making the game more interesting and challenging. Each type of Chimera has a different fighting style that you will have to figure out in order to destroy them.
The second is the weapon design. None of the weapons are replicas of real world weapons and they have some great features. One of the most interesting rifles you can get has homing beacons. You can plant the beacons on your enemy and then when you fire your rifle all the bullets will home in on the enemy. Possible the coolest gun you can pick up in this PS3 game is called the Augor. This is a particularly dangerous weapon that can shoot through solid surfaces, making it difficult for you or your enemies to hide from it. It also gives its holder a protection shield.
You will have to do most of the fighting on your own, however, not completely. There are times when there are a few other humans that join in to help with the fight. One neat feature that is possible when you are fighting with other humans is the ability to save someone's life.
The multiplayer aspect of the PS3's Resistance: Fall of Man game is done to an excellent standard. It offers a good choice of maps, based on single player game environments. You can enter a game that takes between 8 and 40 players in total. Play is very smooth and there is no lag even when you are in a full game of 40 players. When you play this PS3 game's multiplayer section you can gain various awards and ranks, based on your online accomplishments. You can also choose if you want to play a human or Chimera, both of which can pick up and use any weapon.
To conclude this PS3 game review of Resistance: Fall of Man it has to be said that this is definitely one of the best games currently available for the PS3. If you are a fan of first person shooters then you will certainly enjoy this one. The game has excellent visuals especially when glass shatters, good sound effects, good graphics and most importantly fun game play.

Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - Names, cycling, steam and Kate Bush |
Dear all
Thank you so much for your warm messages. It's great to get to know everyone. Especial thanks to for your useful tip about remembering the character Ολ. One thing is for sure - learning Chinese characters has got to be more fun than learning English spellings.
JK27, we're brothers! Do I have any other siblings , or is it just you and a massive photographic company? Are there any other companies who I should become friends with? Maybe I'll write to them asking for money for promoting their brand with my name.
Speaking of names, I have to confess that I often meet Chinese students who have chosen rather odd occidental names. Odd in what way? Well they are often a little old-fashioned (e.g. Sylvia, Joyce, Lilly) and sometimes they're words which aren't normal English names. When these people go to English-speaking countries they might stand out a bit because of their names.
But does this matter? Maybe choosing a name is a good way to make a statement about yourself. I knew a guy once who officially changed his surname to ‘Fantastic'. He was called Matt Fantastic. You can't deny it's a fun name, and shows he has a sense of humour.
Sometimes people choose to call their kids really wacky things. Just take a look at this news article on the BBC site.
Anyway, if you have an occidental name, tell me what it is and why you have chosen it. Did you just like the sound of the name? Or does your choice say something about you?
OK, time for some photos. I mentioned yesterday that I like cycling. Last week I cycled from my flat in London to my wife's home near Eastbourne, a distance of about 150 km. The whole trip took two days.
I took this at the start of my trip. It's a picture of East London. You can see Tower Bridge in the middle and on the right, a pointy new building. The distinctive shape and green colour of this building has earned it the nickname 'the gherkin '.
‘‘‘‘
After four hours of hard peddling , I took this picture of some green fields in Surrey. Notice that the weather brightened up too!
‘‘‘‘
Later that weekend, I went to a steam fair. Look at these old steam tractors . Of course they are not used anymore – they've just been restored by enthusiasts for fun.
I want to end by mentioning that today is the 50th birthday of one of my favourite pop singers – Kate Bush. Ever heard of her? She was really popular in the UK and the USA in the 1980's and early 90's. I admire her because she managed to be successful despite being quite avant-garde .
Her most famous song is called ‘Wuthering Heights' and it takes its name from a famous novel by Emily Bronte. Maybe you can find a clip online and let me know what you think!

Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - life in future |
Quiet morningsSing-a-long songs with my toddlers in the car. Sunset and a beer with my wife. Runner's high on a long run. Cuddling up and watching a DVD with the wife and kids. Walking outside with my son after it rains. My "life" talks with my eldest daughter in the car. Writing a post for 50,000 people, in my pajamas. Feeling sick and lying in bed all day without having to call my boss. Showing my 2-year-old the clear starry sky. Cheering my kids on in their soccer games. Time alone with a good book. Freshly brewed coffee. My hot veggie soup on a cold day. Writing before the sun rises. Fresh, cold berries. A long conversation with a friend. Succumbing to a mid-afternoon nap. Playing kickball in the yard with my kids. The feeling of satisfaction after a workout. Waking up to a clean, uncluttered living room. Laughing at my son's wacky sense of humor. Screaming my head off when my son scores a goal. Collapsing after finishing a marathon, exhausted but in love with life. Spending time with my mom and sisters on a Saturday afternoon, baking sweets. Letting a warm chocolate chip cookie melt in my mouth with my eyes closed. A long hot shower. Walking with the sand between my toes as the sun goes down. Listening to the sound of waves lapping a white sand beach. A hug when I need it. Dew on the grass in the morning.

Thursday, October 16, 2008 - Circles of Friends |
Circles of Friends
Many people will walk in and out of your life,
Butonly ture friends will leave footprints in your heart.
To handle yourself , use your head,
To heandle others, use your heart.
Anger isonlyone letter short of danger.
If someone betrays youonce, it is his fault;
if he betrays you twice, it is your fault.
Great minds discuss ideas;
Average minds discuss events;
Small minds discuss people.
He who loses money, loses much;
He who loses a friend, loses much more;
He who loses loses faith, loses all.
Beautiful young people are accidents of nature,
But beautiful old people are works of art.
Learn from the mistakes of others.
You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.
Friends, you and me ...
And brought another friend...

Thursday, October 16, 2008 - Friendship |
Friends are necessary to happy life. When friendship deserts us we are as lonely and helpless as a ship, left by the tide high upon the shore. When friendship returns to us, it is as though the tide came back, gave us buoyancy and freedom, and opened to us the wide places of the world.
Friendship improves happiness, and abates misery, by doubling our joy, and dividing our grief.
Friends are important. It has often been said that, " No man can live like an island." As our population increases in size , this is becoming increasingly true. A person will have trouble coping with society without friends.
Friends should not be confused with acquaintainces. Acquaintances are people whom you may see often. But, you could never share weal and woe with an acquaintance. Acquaintance are usually with you for what they can get. Maybe , they like to be with you because you are popular. People usually have few friends and many acquaintances.
Friends are always there when you need them. they are dependable and responsible. They share your sorrow and happiness. They are not interested in what they can get from you. They influence your development, maturity and sense of responsibility. They also warn you when you are in danger of doding wrongly, Yes friends are wonderful. It is nice to enjoy the warmth radiating from good friend.

Thursday, October 16, 2008 - Dreams and goals |
Dreams, goals, what's the difference?
Dreams are where we all want to end up. Goals are how we get there. Dreams are our vision of where we are after our stuggle, the prize at the end of the journey. Goals are the individual steps we take ultimately to deserve the prize.
Our dreams are our master plan. Goals are our day-by-day blueprints that provide achievable targets for in cremental improvement. But dreams and goals are interrelated.
Goals privide our daily routine, They show us where to shart and they establish our priorities. They make us organized and create the discipline in our lives. Getting yourself to establish your goals is paramount, one of the key building blocks in achieving success.
So you must establish specific goals and clarely define them. Goals are not merely fuzzy wishes, or hastily made New year' s resolutions. They are tangible action item to be written down and followed.

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - Food poisoning again |
Food poisoning again
I got food poisoning third time since I came back to China. The backlist of Chinese food I should avoid is getting longer and longer: Yellow Dirt Snail £¬Yellow alcohol sautéed raw shrimp and crab, certain animal gut.... But I have no idea what caused me to be sick yesterday, I am the only one who almost vomit after the dinner. I am thinking about adding the Yellow Eel to the backlist since that is the only extraordinary thing I have ever touched…
There are quite some local delicacies which seem to extremely bizarre in most of westerners eyes. Just take last week as example, here are some of items on our menu:
Soy Sauce Sautéed Donkey Meat (One colleague ordered that by mistake since it looks like beef in the picture.)
Deer meat. (That is not too bad.)
Ox Testicle (Nobody is going to order that!!!)
Deer afterbirth (Yuck!!)
"Monkey Head” mushroom (That is not too bad, it is just the way it is cooked, it tastes like a meat, so people wonder whether it is real Monkey head.)
Fish gut (Taste like a jelly fish with a fabric texture)
And these are just the dishes we run into in one week!!

Friday, June 27, 2008 - An unexpected call |
My cell phone suddenly rang loudly when I was playing with my son. The caller ID was strange. Suspiciously, I snapped my phone open and heard an unfamiliar voice with strong Canton accent: "Phoebe, is that you?"
I racked my brains, trying to identify this voice, but no trace of my memory could lead me to the owner of it. "Sorry, who is it?" stuttered I, feeling quite embarrassed.
"Oh, you don't remember me? I changed my phone number, and I call you with my new one. My fault, I should inform you when I changed it. I will arrive at Chengdu tomorrow, and I am just considering perhaps we could meet for lunch." The unrecognized voice went on and on without the slightest suggestion whom it was from.
Puzzled, upset and totally feeling like a fool, I cut him off midsentence. "Sorry, I can't recognize you. Could you tell me who is it?" I tried to put more apologies into my voice, not wishing to hurt or offend a long lost friend and I could feel my cheeks burned.
"Isn't it obvious? How many Cantonese friends do you have?" said the mysterious voice with a cough, feigning uneasiness over the question.
"Is it Qiang?" said I hesitantly. This name just popped into my mind, and I spoke it out like a drowning man clutching at a life belt without further thinking.
"Finally!" said the voice "I am in Chongqing now and I will…"
I listened quietly while he went on with the arrangement of reunion, trying to figure out what's bothering me. Finally I knew it. It can't be Qiang. Thought we haven't seen each other for many years, but I could tell it was not his voice. Qiang is not a Cantonese. He has lived in Guangzhou now, but he is not likely to talk to me with that accent. So who is it? It's impossible for me to know another Qiang who happened to be a Cantonese. In fact, the only Cantonese I know are all my co-workers, and they would never call me this way. I started to panic, and without further second thought I hang on the phone.
Until now I still don't know what this strange phone call is for. Perhaps I am a bitch and just offended a friend who trying to reach me. But you can't be sure. In this dog-eat-dog business world, our privacy has been easily violated. I've received a dozen junk messages and calls from Real Estate, Insurance, milk power companies and so on. God knows how they got my telephone number. Perhaps it is another cheap shoot, but I still feel uncomfortable about this conversation.
It's hard to say whether the communication tools in modern society have drew us closer, or on the contrary, have just widen the distances between us. More and more often, we are satisfied with dropping a line or making a call once in a while to our friends. The easier the communication has become, the lazier we tend to be. We assume that we could maintain our friendships this way and we tend to give our priority to our career, family and other stuffs. But the ones we care and love should not only be the numbers stored in our telephone contact list, or the records in our email box. I can't help but think if I could contact my friends more often, then I would not be bothering with the nagging thoughts of what if this time. Perhaps I should call some friends I haven't contacted for long. As long as we still remember them, we could bring them surprises and pleasures with unexpected calls.

Thursday, April 17, 2008 - Lady, Are You Rich? |
They huddled inside the storm door -- two children in ragged outgrown coats.
"Any old papers, lady?"
I was busy. I wanted to say no -- until I looked down at their feet. Thin little sandals, sopped with sleet.
"Come in and I'll make you a cup of hot cocoa."
There was no conversation. Their soggy sandals left marks upon the hearthstone. I served them cocoa and toast with jam to fortify against the chill outside. Then I went back to the kitchen and started again on my household budget.
The silence in the front room struck through to me. I looked in. The girl held the empty cup in her hands, looking at it. The boy asked in a flat voice," Lady ... are you rich?"
"Am I rich? Mercy, no!" I looked at my shabby slipcovers. The girl put her cup back in its saucer -- carefully.
"Your cups match your saucers."
Her voice was old, with a hunger that was not of the stomach. They left then, holding their bundles of papers against the wind. They hadn't said thank you. They didn't need to. They had done more than that. Plain blue pottery cups and saucers. But they matched.
I tested the potatoes and stirred the gravy. Potatoes and brown gravy, a roof over our heads, my man with a good steady job -- these things matched, too.
I moved the chairs back from the fire and tidied the living room. The muddy prints of small sandals were still wet upon my hearth. I let them be. I want them there in case I ever forget again how very rich I am.

Thursday, February 28, 2008 - The Road To Happiness |
It is a commonplace among moralists that you cannot get happiness by pursuing it. This is only true if you pursue it unwisely. Gamblers at Monte Carlo are pursuing money, and most of them lose it instead, but there are other ways of pursuing money, which often succeed. So it is with happiness. If you pursue it by means of drink, you are forgetting the hang-over. Epicurus pursued it by living only in congenial society and eating only dry bread, supplemented by a little cheese on feast days. His method proved successful in his case, but he was a valetudinarian, and most people would need something more vigorous. For most people, the pursuit of happiness, unless supplemented in various ways, is too abstract and theoretical to be adequate as a personal rule of life. But I think that whatever personal rule of life you may choose it should not, except in rare and heroic cases, be incompatible with happiness.
There are a great many people who have all the material conditions of happiness, i.e. health and a sufficient income, and who, nevertheless, are profoundly unhappy. In such cases it would seem as if the fault must lie with a wrong theory as to how to live. In one sense, we may say that any theory as to how to live is wrong. We imagine ourselves more different from the animals than we are. Animals live on impulse, and are happy as long as external conditions are favorable. wow gold kaufen If you have a cat it will enjoy life if it has food and warmth and opportunities for an occasional night on the tiles. Your needs are more complex than those of your cat, but they still have their basis in instinct. In civilized societies, especially in English-speaking societies, this is too apt to be forgotten. People propose to themselves some one paramount objective, and restrain all impulses that do not minister to it. A businessman may be so anxious to grow rich that to this end he sacrifices health and private affections. When at last he has become rich, no pleasure remains to him except harrying other people by exhortations to imitate his noble example. Many rich ladies, although nature has not endowed them with any spontaneous pleasure in literature or art, decide to be thought cultured, and spend boring hours learning the right thing to say about fashionable new books that are written to give delight, not to afford opportunities for dusty snobbism.
If you look around at the men and women whom you can call happy, you will see that they all have certain things in common. The most important of these things is an activity which at most gradually builds up something that you are glad to see coming into existence. Women who take an instinctive pleasure in their children can get this kind of satisfaction out of bringing up a family. wow gold Artists and authors and men of science get happiness in this way if their own work seems good to them. But there are many humbler forms of the same kind of pleasure. Many men who spend their working life in the city devote their weekends to voluntary and unremunerated toil in their gardens, and when the spring comes, they experience all the joys of having created beauty.
The whole subject of happiness has, in my opinion, been treated too solemnly. It had been thought that man cannot be happy without a theory of life or a religion. Perhaps those who have been rendered unhappy by a bad theory may need a better theory to help them to recovery, just as you may need a tonic when you have been ill. But when things are normal a man should be healthy without a tonic and happy without a theory. It is the simple things that really matter. If a man delights in his wife and children, has success in work, and finds pleasure in the alternation of day and night, spring and autumn, he will be happy whatever his philosophy may be. wow gold If, on the other hand, he finds his wife fateful, his children's noise unendurable, and the office a nightmare; if in the daytime he longs for night, and at night sighs for the light of day, then what he needs is not a new philosophy but a new regimen----a different diet, or more exercise, or what not.
Man is an animal, and his happiness depends on his physiology more than he likes to think. This is a humble conclusion, but I cannot make myself disbelieve it. Unhappy businessmen, I am convinced, would increase their happiness more by walking six miles every day than by any conceivable change of philosophy.
